Kuiper Leda Generic 2 Kuiper Leda Generic Benchmarking Introduction Kuiper Leda Inc. (KL) is an electronic components manufacturer that is currently faced with meeting the industry demands of a greater operational scale. The company is constantly upgrading the existing technological infrastructure to assist with enhancing its supply chain management. In the manufacturing industry supply chain management is critical to overall successful operations (Taunton & Feinbaum, 2006). This was especially the case when Dell Inc. was faced with recalling more than 4 million defective notebook computer batteries. The company's logistics-built business model allowed usage of its own supply chain to fulfill this process. Although this is not a current problem that Kuiper Leda Inc. is facing, the company could benefit from benchmarking situations like this in case circumstances like this arise. Supply chain management includes demand forecasting and planning, distribution inventory planning, and plant capacity planning and scheduling (Taunton & Feinbaum, 2006). The company could greatly benefit from employing techniques implemented by Chinese PC- manufacturer Lenovo on how to deliver on demand shipments as well as several of the other techniques that will be discussed in greater detail throughout this paper. Identify Domestic and Global Best Practices in Supply Chain Management In today’s business arena, companies are currently looking into new ways to do business. To succeed in this environment, companies need to get more creative about their way to do business and more strategic about management and SCM decisions. Domestic and global best practices in supply chain management are designed to take companies to the next business level by implementing new ideas and new ways to improve customer/supplier relationship, manage capacity, improve efficiency, quality, and ensure that their logistics operations remains

Companies could implement best practices by “centralizing command and control, increase business flexibility, initiate two-way communications, re-evaluating old decisions or measuring efficiency. Since 1903, Harley Davidson Motor Company (HD) has shown the ability and commitment with the motorcycle world by becoming a global leader in motorcycle manufacturing. Harley Davidson is known for delivering a consistently high quality product. The use of methodology helps HD to gather input from employees, suppliers and other stakeholders to be used in product development and new design as well. Based on the company’s new production requirements and product complexity, HD implemented best practices in the supply chain arena by implementing EDI and bar coding to better control and trigger systems to replenish materials. Harley Davidson is currently using technology to improve productivity, effectiveness and communications. The use of scheduling, purchase orders, and fund transfers are some examples used by companies to become more effective in today’s business. The use of
