ED 360F ELD and SDAIE Methods and Procedures Fall 2010 Instructors : Jennifer Scalzo (Section A & B) Brent Elder (Section B) Email : [email protected] [email protected] Office : Jennifer Scalzo: Ed 3224 Office Hours: By appointment Course Overview: This course is designed to provide MST and ESC credential candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive instruction for English learners. Specific focus is given to the application of pedagogical theories, principles and practices for English Language Development as well as Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (TPE 7: Teaching English Learners). In fall, candidates will utilize information about students’ assessed levels of English proficiency to construct, implement and reflect on ELD lessons which facilitate the development of listening/speaking, reading and writing (TPE 3: Interpretation and use of Assessments: TPE 4: Making Content Accessible; TPE 7: Teaching English Learners, TPE 8: Learning about Students; TPE 9: Instructional Planning; TPE 13: Professional Growth). During winter and spring, they will develop the ability to use a variety of well planned teaching strategies to provide English learners access to grade level core academic curricula and to develop concepts, academic language and critical thinking skills (TPE 3: Interpretation and use of Assessments: TPE 4: Making Content Accessible; TPE 7: Teaching English Learners, TPE 8: Learning about Students; TPE 9: Instructional Planning; TPE 13: Professional Growth).
