I was a Kindergartner in Mrs. Tyser’s pre- school in Arizona, where I grew up. With a furrowed brow I stared at the worksheet before me. We had been learning color words and the worksheet had a color word at the top. The color word began with “bl” and beneath it were drawings of a bird, a ball and something else. I knew the word had to be either “blue” or “black.” I decided that the bird must be a crow and the ball must be an 8-ball for billiards and proceeded to color in the drawings accordingly.
