Act I o Roderigo (wealthy Venetian) pays Iago (soldier under Othello’s command) money to spy on Othello bc he wants Othello’s girlfriend, Desdemona o Iago still mad at Othello not choosing him as his officer or lieutenant as he had expected o The two men tell gf’s dad about relationship with Othello and Brabantio (father) becomes furious and sends search parties to apprehend Othello o Iago warns Othello even though he was involved – doesn’t mention his involvement o Othello marries Desdemona Father accuses him of using magic Othello must leave abruptly to discuss crisis in Cypress o Brabantio complains to Duke about situation Daughter confirms she is in love with Othello Duke tells Brabantio to forget it and accept the marriage o Duke orders Othello to fight the Turks with Desdemona and Iago tagging along o Rederigo is soon to give up hope on Desdemona but Iago tells him to hold on to his love temporarily o Iago, alone, reveals plan to continue using Roderigo for money and dislike of Othello for the position situation (put Cassio as lieutenant and not Iago)
