Identify the problem Most of the hard to read hand labeled bins contains more than one item in the bin. The other problem I see with the picking, packing, and shipping departments are not interconnected. This causes a huge gap in communication between departments. During busy times they need to hire temporary employees to handle the increase of orders. There is no inventory tracking system in place. They have no idea what they have or where it is located. Develop alternative solutions They need bins which are clearly labeled with only one item for each bin. They need to implement a method of communicating between departments such as hand held radios or walkie- talkies. They should implement software capable of predicting future orders based on previous years ordering trends. They should use this information to plan ahead so there is no need to hire temporary workers. They should implement a system to scan labels at each stage: receiving, picking, packing, and shipping.
