What affect does each of these causes have on society? Healthcare costs are increasing primarily because of the increasing numbers of uninsured patients, an aging population and increasing professionalism of healthcare workers. The increasing numbers of uninsured patients is a huge problem in our country and is related to the large percentage of the workforce who have jobs that do not provide benefits and can not afford health insurance independently and the huge increase in immigration over the last years. Care for these individuals is provided and not paid for, so the cost is then deferred onto taxpayers and those who do pay for their healthcare because the providers have to make up the difference. This impacts society because of the rising taxes which only makes the problem
