Energy Resource Challenges The renewable energy alternatives presented in the video are wind energy derived from wind turbines to generate electricity. Solar energy harnessed from large solar cell panels that absorb sunlight and produce energy; and the conversion technology used to convert grains, harvest- leftovers and wood chips into ethanol. Ethanol is a renewable fuel that can be used in place of gasoline for automobiles. All these alternative renewable energy resources have challenges in terms of their uses and management. For renewable energy to make a difference it has to be available on a larger scale and be more accessible to regular consumer, but it is extremely difficult to compete with low- cost of energy and low gas prices in the United States. Even though the production of wind energy is much cheaper and has more long-term benefits for the environment, addressing the unpredictable nature of wind speed to generate energy will be important.
