Video Lecture: Ways of Looking at Indians, Peopling of North America No evidence to suggest homo sapiens evolved in North America Human evolution occurred in Africa Every native American group in America has different stories about their origins o To determine discrepancies they have to evaluate all the stories amongst each other o Then evaluate it in the context of Archeological findings Homo sapiens evolved in Africa because that is where Apes were created and we evolved from the Apes Archeological and genetic evidence suggests that it took 100,000 years to spread from small civilizations to large populations and out of Africa Archeological Evidence o Homo sapiens evolved 200,000 years ago in Africa o Small populations 100,000 years ago moved into the Arabian Peninsula o 70,000 years ago homo sapiens moved along the coastline because it was ecologically sound Their diet consisted of shellfish, wild plants, bird eggs and turtles Turtles were easy to catch because they move so slow
