Unformatted text preview: Tutorial 4 1. The air pollutants include nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), Carbon dioxide (CO), sulphur diox- ide (SO 2 ), respirable particulates (PM), Ozone (O 3 ) and others. Pollutants can be classified as either primary or secondary. Primary pollutants are substances directly produced by a process, such as ash from a volcanic eruption or the carbon monoxide gas from a motor vehicle exhaust. The primary can be controlled by reducing the emission of harmful gas. Secondary pollutants are not emitted. Rather, they form in the air when primary pollutants react or interact. An important example of a sec- ondary pollutant is ozone. For the air pollution data in Hong Kong, fit the following partially linear regression model Ozone = β 1 * NO 2 + β 2 * SO 2 + β 3 * Particulate + β 4 * Humidity + g ( Temperature )+ ε (a) What is your findings from the modelling?
