Week Three Question 1: After reading about step 2 Assessing the Levels of Risk and Protective Factors in the Community, write about why data collection is so important in the assessment of the risk factors. After reading this week’s lesson I would absolutely agree that it is very important that reliable data collection is taken in order to assess the level of risk and prevention factor in the community. Archival data or survey data can be used to identify and determine such risk and prevention factors. Archival indicators are used because there is certain data that we can’t get access to such as health department data. It is key to examine risk factors and prevention factors because this will tell us which factors are prevalent in our community that are increasing the risk that youth will be involved in substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, youth violence, school dropout and much more.
