BENEDICT AT MONTECASSANIO Montecassino gets sacked, because it is trying to correspond to the papcy also, doesn’t want lay influence. Sacked by muslim forces also 883. Gets sacked in the 11 th century. Frontis piece of a book. Desiderius rebuilds abbey. Nothing in the abbey in modern day is what it was like before. CENTER OF MINASTICISM because founded by greggicism, biggest order of the monks. All this infighting, Pope Greggory VII wants to make papcy indendent of lay influence.
