Chapter 1 Information – a fact of series of facts that carry meaning. The value of these facts strongly depend on context . Can be an image, text, sound, or numbers . Spam – unsolicited, unwanted emails that flood Internet mailboxes. About half of all email is actually spam. Image, Text, Sound, and Numbers can all be represented using binary code. Binary code consists of the values 1 and 0 Any form of information can be represented in binary code of ones and zeros which are called bits . Obsolescence - becoming out of date Convergence – the unification of technologies to offer different information services through a single device or system. Multimedia - most present-day technologies are multifunctional, as they capture or exchange not a single type of information but integrate multiple forms of information for different purposes. Information technologies - devices or systems that capture, process, exchange, or store information . Systems of hardware and or software that capture, process, exchange, store, and or present information using electrical magnetic and or electromagnetic energy EX:.
