Robert Wu A Prayer For Owen Meany Chapter Thoughts Chapter 1: The Foul Ball -Johnny ascribes his faith to Owen Meany (Pg.2) -Johnny’s respect for Owen Meany in the future contradicts how he made fun of him later in the novel (Pg.2) -Owen could have stopped coming to Sunday school but continue to probably on account of strong dedication to his religion (Pg. 5) -Johnny’s grandfather can be considered a spiritual leader (Pg. 5) -It’s ironic that Aunt Martha brought boys home from the college she attended in an attempt to make Tabby jealous but accomplished nothing except for losing her “beaus” to her sister (Pg. 14) - Judging from the narrator’s description of her grandmother’s house, the fact that she has multiple maids, and her practice of wearing cocktail dresses while gardening for her reputation, Harriet Wheelwright possesses and shows her affluence. (Pg. 19) Chapter 2: The Armadillo -The different responses of Simon, Noah, and Hester at Johnny’s falling while skiing show their different maturity levels, Noah- asks if Johnny’s ok, Simon/Hester- ridicule Johnny (Pg. 53) -Johnny objected to Owen accompanying him to Sawyer Depot partially because he feared that Owen would not be able to take his cousins’ constant bullying (This shows Johnny’s transition from making fun of Owen to respecting him) (Pg. 60)
