Unformatted text preview: Erindale College - University of Toronto at Mississauga CSC 104 - Fall 2010 Assignment 1 Orientation, Web Search and Program Review Due date: October 7, 10 a.m. Purpose: You will execute several basic tasks including: log onto your UTORid account, send email, receive and reply to email, explore the Web, write a personal course Blog (journal), post messages on the CSC 104 Blackboard discussion board. (Your UTORid was sent as part of your acceptance and it would have been sent to the email address you provided in your application. If you did not receive a UTORid visit the help desk in room 2039 in the South Building.) You will also find a Web Site based program or application, find another CSC 104 student interested in the same application and different comparable application program by posting a message on the CSC104 discussion board, and create a set of webpages that compare application programs. Step 1: Test your UT computer account. Step 2: Explore the Web. Search for sites that focus on an interest of yours. Use Google or some other search engine with keywords that describe your interest. The Website must include some sort of program or application either one you interact with on the site (eg. Evite or Someecards) or a program that you download and use (eg. Ghostview). There are many sites that have public domain programs or programs that can be used for a limited amount of time at no cost. (NO games please.) When you find a site and program reserve it by posting the location, URL, along with a brief description in the BlackBoard course discussion board.
