1. Objectives: The purpose of this lab is to show stress concentration in the region of displacement on an aluminum beam. The stress concentration is represented by Kt. To find this the displacement used was a hole in the aluminum beam. 2. Theory: Stress concentration is where stress is highly concentrated on an object. Stress concentration is higher where the area of an object is not even. Geometric discontinuities cause an object to experience a local increase in the intensity of a stress field. An example of this would be a crack in a beam which would make stress concentration high near the crack. Figure 1 shows a stress concentration near a hole in a beam. Illustration of Stress concentration (Figure 1) To find the stress concentration the stress concentration factor ( Kt ) must be calculated. To calculate Kt strain has to be measured in different
