Note: NO calculations are necessary for this station –you are simply to perform the specified tasks, displaying good technique and using the appropriate equipment to produce the best accuracy. Prepare a solution diluted 1:19 (5% by volume) of Tris buffer stock (10pts): a. Properly label a 150 mL beaker for the solution you will prepare. b. Select the type of measuring device that will accurately deliver 5 mL of solution. c. Deliver 5 mL of Tris buffer stock to the labeled flask. d. Using the appropriate equipment, add 95 mL of distilled water. e. Thoroughly mix the diluted solution. f. Taking the appropriate precautions, measure the pH of your prepared solution. g. Record the pH value ______________. h. Temporarily leave the pH electrode immersed in the solution for your Laboratory Instructor to examine (raise your hand when you are ready). i. Finally, carefully rinse the pH electrode and return it to the yellow storage solution. j. Record the pH value ______________ of the yellow storage solution. k. Recap your solution and leave it for your Laboratory Instructor to examine (raise your hand when you are ready). Finally, clean up your work station and return the set-up to its proper condition (as you found it upon your arrival). Do NOT turn off the power to the pH meter or balance.
