Mathai 1 Mathai, Ron Govt 2302 Professor Smith June 22, 2010 America's Energy Dependence America is truly addicted to oil and it is often imported from some mercurial regions of the world. The foremost leading means to relinquishing this addiction is through technology. The United States’ dependence on imported energy intensifies its strategic vulnerability and restrains its competence to pursue foreign policy and national security objectives. The shortfall in continual scrutiny of the energy issues is undermining our foreign policy and national security. At the same time, energy exporting countries spanning from Venezuela to Saudi Arabia, are able and prepared to manipulate their energy resources and supplies as influential leverage to work towards their tactical political intentions. “According to a BBC World Report, t he United States currently has 4.6 percent of the world’s population and is using 25 percent of the world’s oil.” (Charles, Washington Post) The increase in
