Tyler Carlson MUH2019-03 Media Journal #1 Popular music serves as not only a source of entertainment, but as a way for individual to express themselves through the lyrics as well as variety of constant changing styles. It also allows the audience to express themselves by which music they choose to listen. From up-beat dance atmosphere expressed through the rhythm of tunes such as, the “Tutti Fruitti” by Little Richard, to the mellow, grainy voice and melodic riffs of Robert Johnson’s “Traveling Riverside Blues.” These varieties of works express the different reactions and influences due to the socio-political climate at the particular time. As society changes and develops music follows adapting and altering. Pop music displays images of gender identity as well as racial affiliation and stirs up unlimited feelings through the music. Pop music has been influenced and continues to be by prior musicians. The listening we have studied both in class and on our own demonstrates this perfectly.
