Think about the last time that you washed some dishes at your home or apartment. Say you have some disposable plastic containers and some stoneware-type plates. You let both the plastic containers and the plates soak in really hot water for about 10 minutes, then scrub them all out, and finish by rinsing in hot water. You then let the plates and containers dry off in a drying rack for an hour. When you come back you notice that one thing you washed is still wet, and one is dry. Will the containers or plates be dry, and why? Here are a couple of numbers that might help: Material Approximate Specific Heat Values C g J o Polyethylene 1.60 Stoneware 0.80 When the dishes are all dry, the plates feel cooler to the touch than the plastic…why?
