1 DeSantis Julia DeSantis ENGW.1002.3U Professor Bivona 5 March 2020 Why do People Enjoy Horror Movies? Horror have been around for decades. One of the very first horror films was directed by German Director F.W Murnau. In 1922, Murnau directed the film Nosferatu, which translates to Vampire in English. Nosferatu is one of the most horrifying renditions of Dracula and was able to terrify the audience with just picture and a musical score in the background. Today, horror movies and being even more unnerving with chilling special effects and jump scares. But why do people enjoy the thrill of being scared? There are many theories that explain as to why horror movies are so captivating to some. These includes horror movie are able to represent fears and explain as to why some people are able to do such terrible things to others. There are also a few biological factors that explain the appeal of being scared. A popular theory is that these movies somehow represent real fears. For example, in Jordan Peele’s Get Out , the storyline symbolizes social and racial fears. Watching horror movies allows you to be in touch of what you are really afraid of.
