Kava 2 The Formulation of Decision Making within the Kava Introduction The Kava project of incorporating the Department of Corrections (DOC) is a plan devised by the CEO Chris Morales. Throughout the last presentation we identified constricting elements that may hinder the function of our new facility. Within this presentation we will pick up where we left off in devising an emergency preparedness plan by incorporating one of these two decision making techniques, collective participative, and autocratic. We will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each of these styles. We will then decide which style is most beneficial, and decide which style will be incorporated in this new facility. Collective-Participative The collective participative style is defined as including team members in devising solutions to resolving a situation. Although team members propose their ideas the ultimate commander will make the final decision and retain full responsibility for the decision that they have made (Leadership Management Development Center Inc, 1997). This style can be very beneficial, or detrimental depending on the occurring situation. Strengths This decision making style if used in the right situation can be very beneficial while trying to resolve a problem. This style permits team members to display an array of ideas that will influence the decision on how the problem will be resolved. This style also gives the ultimate commander the time needed to research and dissect each of the ideas that are brought forth. The last benefit of this decision making style is that the ultimate commander still holds full responsibility on the decision that they have made.
