Diversity Action Plan of Boeing 2 Diversity Action Plan of Boeing Diversity is now a common word in the vocabularies of global companies. Globalization along with diversity has taken the market by storm. Companies now must prepare for a cultural mix of employees that do not always’ see eye to eye. The cultural mix of employees that this paper will focus on is that of Boeing. To fully explain how diverse this company may become the writers must first explain the trends in which the populations are growing. Once the reader has gotten a detailed broadcast of the different populations the writers will explain the functions of Boeing and just how global they really are. The writers will then take this one step further and explain the cultural norms of different groups that Boeing does business with. The writers will explain common barriers that may pose problems with having such a diverse workforce, the preparation for these barriers, and how Boeing will maximize their productivity in such diverse environments. Population Trends Population is on the rise as it has been since the beginning of time. In 1804 the world population was a mere one billion people, just one hundred and twenty three years later that population doubled in size, in 1987 sixty years later the population was at five billion, and just twelve years later in 1999 the population was at six billion (www.globalchange.umich.edu, 2006). With the population increasing this fast projections state, that by 2050 the world population will be a shocking 8.9 billion people. A Diverse Population A population of 8.9 billion is an astonishing number that most people cannot even grasp. The fastest populating cultures are those that are non American, there are nearly three times the

With such great diversity in the workforce companies such as Boeing must prepare policies and standards that meet the norms of the different cultures that they may employ, or do business with. Boeing a Diversified Organization Boeing a company that is recognized around the world for being the leading producer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft combined employs over 157, 000 people in more than 70 different countries, thus making it one of the most divers company’s worldwide (Boeing.com, 2010).
