PSY 3001W Lab 2 References in APA Format When you are preparing a manuscript in APA format, you must: cite all of your sources of information within the text of your manuscript give a complete reference to each source in the Reference section at the end of your manuscript References must be typed in a very specific format. Using a specific format makes it easier for your reader to locate the articles that you referenced and it is also easier for a typesetter to convert your typed manuscript to a format that will appear in a printed journal. Most of your references will refer to journal articles. This document describes the correct format for references to journal articles according to the APA Publication Manual. This Issue with Issue Numbers : One distinction between the examples shown below is that whereas some contain an issue number after the volume number, others do not. One “volume” of a journal is typically published each year, with each volume being made up of many issues published monthly or every few months. For the vast majority of sources, the publishers continue the page numbers through the entire volume; thus, issue 2 might begin on page 145. Rarely, journals begin the numbering in each issue, so that issues 2, 3, 4 and so on each start with page 1. The rule for whether or not you should include the issue number is: - If each ISSUE begins with page 1, DO include the issue number in the reference. It is necessary to find the article, as there will be more than one of that page number in that volume. - If the pages of a volume continue across all the issues in that volume, DO NOT include the issue number in the reference. It is not necessary to find the article. New APA rule - DOIs
