Problem: affect/effect; studies don’t “find”; use of “really” (casual and unnecessary); verb “does” does not match plural subject Rewording: The researchers found that shopping and money do have an effect on emotions. Both affect and effect can be used as nouns and verbs. affect as a verb: to influence in some way (“writing exercises affect your writing ability”) affect as a noun: expression of emotion (“showed no affect when he lost the game”) effect as a noun: an influence of one thing on another (“these exercises had an effect on my writing”) effect as a verb (very uncommon): to cause [something] to happen (“to effect a change”) 2. The data isn’t enough to prove that males are better at math than females. Problem: “Data” is plural; do not use contractions; do not use “prove” Rewording: There are not sufficient data to suggest that males are better at
