The basic idea seems to have been to make the pie of economics larger so that all have more. This plan works in two ways .The first way is it helps avoid disagreements and the spirit of class warfare. The second is economic growth benefits both businesses and individuals alike. The justification behind this economic plan was always the long held excuse that poverty is caused by the fact that there is not enough to go around and that the market eventually lifts all things better known as the trickle down effect. While the reasons for supporting economic growth are there the rational for continuing on this path has come under some suspicion. The last 30 years of economic development have not produced many promising results in terms of reducing or getting rid of poverty.
