1. Suppose that a student needs to buy 6 books for her history course. The number of books that she will be able to find used is a binomial random variable X with n = 6 and p = 0.30. What is the probability that she will find more than 2 used books? P(X>2)=1-P(X<=2), then go to minitab for the following command It will give you Cumulative Distribution Function Binomial with n = 6 and p = 0.3 x P( X <= x ) 2 0.74431 Which means P(X<=2)=0.74431, so P(X>2)=1-0.74431=0.25569

2. You just found out that you have been kicked out of your apartment (through no fault of your own!) and need to find a new place to live. Suppose monthly rent for an individual is a normally distributed random variable with a mean of 334 dollars and a standard deviation of 22 dollars. What is the probability that you will find an apartment that costs less than 350 dollars per month. Follow the notes, you should get to the following command window in mintab, filling the numbers as the following.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
