Phys 664: Thermal and Statistical Physics, FALL 2009 Class Location and Hours : 9:30 am - 10.20 am, Mon & Wed in Cardwell Hall room 144, 9:30 am - 10.20 am, Fri in Willard Hall room 025 Office Hours: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Instructor information: Prof. Robert Szoszkiewicz, Cardwell Hall, room 307, rs@phys.ksu.edu , 785-532-0855 Course Texts: The primary textbook for this course is Thermal Physics (Charles Kittel and Herbert Kroemer). Other optional books are: Statistical Physics by F. Mandl; Fundamentals of Statistical and Thermal Physics by F. Reif; Lectures on Statistical Physics and Protein Folding by Kerson Huang; Heat and Thermodynamics: an Intermediate Textbook by M. Zemansky and R. Dittman; Statistical Mechanics by Kerson Huang; Statistical Mechanics by R. K. Pathria. Grading scheme: Homework (due one week after receiving them): 40% . There is going to be about 10HWs. Mid-exams (two or three one class-hour exams): 30%. Tentatively during classes on Sept 28, and Nov 4. Final exam
