Shattering of the Calm After the Compromise. 7. The Dred Scott Case. 8. Raid on Harper’s Ferry. 9. Election of 1860. 10. NO Class Next Week! 1. Missouri Compromise 11 Free States; 11 Slave States. Balance to maintain slavery because of the # of delegates in the Senate. 1813 Missouri applies to be a state. Apply to join the Union as a slave state . Bill for Missouri’s state hood – John Tallmadge Amendment o No new slaves can be brought into Missouri after it becomes a state. o Any slave that is already there will be free once they become 25. Henry Clay comes up with the Missouri Compromise Maine is a free state too keeps the balance. Line is draw @ 36°30 anything above is NO slavery. J. Q. Adams inventible that something is going to happen. 2. Moderates and Radicals Northern Moderate Don’t want it to expan d into more states. Northern Radicals Full abolishment of slavery. Southern Moderates Slavery is a necessary evil that will one day wither away when it is no longer economically viable. Southern Radicals Should be allowed to expand .
