to society. The problem with water resources is that a depleting number of them are becoming unuseful to humans because of pollution. Water pollution can stem from many issues but one large reason is overcrowded populations. When you force too many people into one area the result is an increase in water demand and poor environmental management. As a result of this the water resources that is used by society gets polluted and becomes dangerous and unhealthy to use. Polluted water can cause serious health problems within a community when it is not properly treated, and if severe enough could cause death in an individual. As humans we need fresh, clean water for a variety of reasons. We need water to drink to be able to sustain healthy life, as well as for cooking, and washing. Water pollution becomes a major problem when mixed with these categories. The demand in safe water has risen because of the rise in population. But the rise in population has increased the rise in water pollution. In some countries such as Latin America, the need for clean water is substantial. In a report done by the Pacific Institute as many as 135 million people will die from preventable water-related diseases by 2020. ( Gleick, Peter 2002) One of the main causes in water pollution is humans. Other nonliving contributors to water pollution are industrial wastes. Mainly heavy metals, oils, and discharges from power stations. Also, agricultural runoff has a large impact on water pollution. Such things can be in agricultural runoff like pesticides which can play a large role in contaminating clean drinking water and cause the people that ingest the water to become sick. Another factor that affects the quality of water is runoff from sewage. It gets into rivers and causes river pollution which in
