Heredity and Hormones BEH/225 Amber N. Hunter The endocrine system which is known as “the other” system of communication for the body is one place where hormones are produced. These hormones are produced by endocrine glands that actually make up the endocrine system. What is a hormone? A hormone is a chemical substance that is released into the bloodstream. Hormones are used in the process of metabolism, growth, and sexual development. In life hormones are responsible for certain behaviors in an adult such as alertness, excitability, sexual behavior, concentration, aggressiveness, and reactions to stress. So in a way you hormones and the endocrine system play a large role in a human’s behavior. Thyroxin is a hormone known to reduce concentration and increase irritability when the thyroid is overactive. When the thyroid is underactive the hormone thyroxin can cause drowsiness and sluggishness. The hormone thyroxin is secreted by the thyroid gland. Parathormone is a hormone that is
