Atomic Radii We really don’t measure the SIZE of these atoms. We measure the distance BETWEEN two atoms and from that infer a radius. An isoelectronic series consists of ions that have the same number of electrons. FIRST IONIZATION ENERGY: The minimum amount of energy required to remove the most loosely bound electron from an isolated gaseous atom to form a 1+ ion.
