As the tube spun, the red blood cells went to the bottom of the tube, the white blood cells covered RBCs with a thin layer called the Buffy coat, and the liquid plasma was at the top. The height of the red cells is measured as a percent of the total blood column with the Critocaps card. The higher number of red cells, the higher the Hematocrit.
