Giannina Morales 9-27-10 CHM 111 Lab TITLE Fractional Crystalization OBJECTIVE To seperate two pure components from a mixtures using water as the solvent. INSTRUEMENTS AND MATERIALS USED TO PERFORM EXPERIMENT beaker, mass sample, filter paper,filter flask,buchner funnel,20g of sample, safety glasses,bunsen burner, matches,watch glass,rubber policeman,distilled water,6m ammonia,test tube ,ice bath, thermometor, top loading balance,gas and vaccum tubing, wire gauze , iron ring, sample #27,Data sheets. PROCEDURE/ ANALYSIS Every material needed to perform the experiment was collected and ready to use. First the weight of an empty beaker was taken, the measurement found was 115.13g. Then the weight of the beaker plus sample 27 was taken it was 135.14g.The difference of these two masses were taken the result 20.01g, the wieght of the sample. Next, the percentage of SiO 2 (sand) in the smaple needed to be determined. the mass of the watch glass and filter paper was taken it was 42.44g. the sample was then put into a beaker and 40ml of distilled water was added. the bunsen
