Some “Statistics” on Ethics 95 percent of respondents indicated that they “strongly believe”  that they live ethical lives. But, many admitted “a willingness to commit immoral acts.” For example: 25 percent said they would not inform police of a  loved one who committed a crime; 25 percent would help a friend  or family member even if it wasn’t the right thing to do; and 42  percent did not find anything wrong with lying to get ahead in life  or a career. An ethicist commented that the results were an indication of an  alarming trend towards pragmatism described by, “Can I get away  with it?” or “Is somebody going to catch me?”  [ Source: “Survey: Canadians are a Moral Bunch, with Exceptions,”  The  Telegram  (St. John’s, NL), September 23, 2006, B8.]
