Molecular Modeling Collaboratory UC San Francisco Problems occur when the modeling and refinement personnel have different conceptions of how the research ought to proceed. Due to inefficient communications, these differences are sometimes not properly conveyed (and are therefore not resolved) which can lead to much wasted time and resources when dynamics simulations thereby ave to be recomputed. Lecture 10B: Human-Computer Interaction, Semester 2, 2010 3 have to be recomputed. The use of a CHIMERA-based molecular modeling collaboratory will alleviate many of these problems due to its facility for multi-media interaction between the researchers and because it will allow the collaborators to analyze identical models of zinc finger-DNA complexes.

Molecular Modeling Collaboratory UC San Francisco Currently, our collaborators view static images of the models because their interactive modelling facilities are limited. During telephone conversations the static images are frequently inadequate because questions arise regarding molecular interactions that were not captured in the image set. Lecture 10B: Human-Computer Interaction, Semester 2, 2010 4 The introduction of a molecular modeling collaboratory available on a wide variety of platforms -- particularly low-cost platforms -- would alleviate these problems.
