1. (10 points) Suppose an electron is described by the following wavefunction: ψ (x) = A e -2|x| (a) Find the constant A so that the total probability is normalized to 1. (b) Calculate the probability of finding the particle between x = 0 and x = 1.
2. (15 points) The band-edge diagram along the vertical (x) direction of a Si n- channel MOSFET at 300 K is described by: E C (x) = 1.02 eV, x < 0 cm E C (x) = 1.02 – (0.9e8)x 2 eV, 0 cm < x < 1e-4 cm E F (x) = 0 eV, for all x where x is in cm. This band edge diagram is sketched below.
