1. (25 points) Short answer. (a) Consider a Gaussian beam with λ 0 = 514.5 nm and a spot size of W 0 = 1 mm at z = 0. The beam is propagating in the +z direction. How far will this beam propagate before the spot size is 1 cm? (b) Find the frequency of green light. The wavelength is 510 nm. (c) Laser light with λ = 1 μm uniformly illuminates a circular aperture with 0.2 cm diameter. Find the diffraction angle of the light exiting the aperture.
(d) BRIEFLY describe the Brewster angle, using NO equations.
