System Software – (firmware) software that manages + control the physical hardware of a computer so that app software can work End – user – people who use the computer Operating System – most important aspect of a system + platform for application software Application Software – performs tens of thousands of specific tasks the end – user needs: creating a budget, creating a resume, or making a professional presentation. Business Application Software Suites – (productivity suites) when software manufacturers like Microsoft and MAC produce business apps and sell them in packages called software suites Graphical user interface (GUI) – presented on the computer’s screen and allows a user to interact with text, graphical images, and any other info a user requires Windows – ex. All of Microsoft Office 07 and Office 08 for Mac’s application software are presented on a user’s monitor in a rectangular box Ribbon – A GUI element compose of a strip across the top of the window that exposes
