' Model 208A03 quartz force transducer measures dynamic and short term static forces from 1.0 to 500 7 pounds (.001 to 1.0000 lb optional) at any tare level within this range. in constant temperature environ— ments, this medium—range model follows transient events lasting a few percent(~-20 sec) of the discharge time constant and automatically eliminates static (tare) signal components in about 5 time constants. Optional lower range models more quickly eliminate static signal components: The structure of this transducer contains two thin quartz disks or plates operating in a thickness- compression mode and capped by hardened steel cylindrical members. The exceptional stiffness of this design, which approaches that of a solid steel cylinder, has little effect on the rigidity of most test structures or test objects. Quartz force transducers install by clamping preci- sion mounting surfaces in intimate contact, usually with an elastic berryillium-copper stud or bolt. Since forces are transmitted through these interfaces, it is important that mating surfaces be precision machined and ground extremely flat and parallel, like those on the transducer. Series 208 transducers, incorporating a separate outer case and an integral metal flexure, withstand moderate torque and transverse loads, but for high accuracy measurements, the force ought to be centrally and axially applied. A detachable impact plate and pad is supplied with the transducer. When connected to a PCB power unit, self—ampli- fying PCB transducers generate a high-level, low- impedance analog output signal proportional to the measurand and compatible with most readout instruments. The simple power unit circuit powers the transducer over the signal lead (coaxial or 2—wire), eliminates bias on the output and monitors normal or faulty operation. These tiny sensitive (10 mV/g) sensors operate reliably over wide amplitude and frequency ranges under adverse environmental conditions.
