Michael Samuels 10/28/08 SMPA 110W Doyle Dan Nuemann The tech age brings new possibilities to the traditional art of journalism. With the advent of wireless technology and blackberries people are constantly connected. This new frontier allows journalists free reign when pursuing stories. On October 23 rd , Dan Nuemann, a contributing editor for Inside US China Trade, spoke to Mike Doyle’s Intro to News Writing and Reporting and highlighted his dislike for informal uses of communication. “Be a old fart, don’t e-mail, call people on the phone” said Nuemann Using his dry wit to keep the class interested, Nuemann made clear his beliefs in fostering personal relationships when conducting interviews for a certain aspect of his story. Taking someone out to lunch or sending them the quote you will using in your story are two of the ways he pointed out to foster that kind of relationship.
