Michael Samuels 11/19/08 SMPA 110 W Doyle Johnny Lee Not often on many division A college basketball teams can a 5’6’ 163lbs freshman earn an athletic scholarship as a walk-on. However, Johnny Lee, a senior point guard, isn’t your average freshmen. Lee earned his spot and subsequent scholarship to play for the GWU team his sophomore year after spending his freshman year training for the opportunity. The tireless work had paid off but unfortunately for him, he wasn’t receiving significant playing time, as he was playing behind senior point guard Carl Elliot, and standout freshman Travis King. Due to the limited appearances on-court Lee received, he became a fan favorite amongst the crowd each time he entered the game. “Everyone got so excited every time he touched the ball. It looked like a boy playing amongst men. Every time Johnny took a shot the whole crowd got excited” said GWU senior Scott Leibowitz Chants of “Johnny, Johnny, Johnny” were a common occurrence during that
