Michael Samuels Altamont Murder Meredith Hunter attended a free concert at alongside an estimated 300,000 others at Altamont Speedway in northern California. On this December 6 th night, during a performance by the Rolling Stones, Hunter, 18, was stabbed five times by the security at the concert. Hunter was allegedly drawing a revolver from his waist band when the security rushed him. The Hells Angels, a commonly known motorcycle gang, was hired as guards for the night’s performances. It was reported that Hells Angels were paid $500 in beer for their services and had armed themselves with sawed off pool cues. Unformatted text preview: idea, and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones had this to say “I don’t think it was a good idea to have Hells Angels, but we had them for the Grateful Dead” The altercation took place during the Stones’ set, and the band along with the crowd continued the performance throughout the incident. Mick Jagger, the lead sing of the Stones, was heard asking “everybody [to] be cool now” during the show. After the show Grateful Dead manager Rock Scully said “Stones, they wrote the script and got what they paid for”, seemingly insinuating they were responsible for confrontation. An investigation is sure to follow to see if there was any foul play involved, or a result of self defense....
