ITIS 1P97 – Canbolat Fall 2009 ITIS 1P97 ASSIGNMENT #2 (Group Assignment (3 students); Due: 5:00 pm, TH364, Monday, November 30 th ) INSTRUCTIONS: TOTAL = 60 marks 1. Assignments should be typed using a word processor and/or hand-written (neatly) and submitted in print form (i.e., hard copy). Submission of the assignment in electronic form (e.g. e-mail attachment) will not be accepted. 2. The first page of your assignment should show the course number, the assignment number, the students’ names, ID numbers and section numbers. Students from different sections can form a group. Assignments that do not have all of the necessary information will be penalized. 3. It is the group’s responsibility to ensure that their assignment is received in an accessible format (i.e., stapled, page number, etc.). Assignments submitted in improper format will be returned to the students without being graded (i.e., zero mark). 4. The due date is firm and late assignments will not be accepted. PROBLEM #1 (10 marks) : For Modeling Exercise #4.13 on page 214, do the following questions. (a) Formulate a linear programming model. You should clearly define all necessary decision variables. You should show a complete LP model separately in this section before moving to Section (b). Do not draw an influence diagram. (b) Solve the above model using Excel Solver. What is the least-cost explosive mix necessary to produce a safe explosion? What is the least cost? You should also show the original LP model on Excel worksheet. Attach Excel worksheet and answer sheet. PROBLEM #2 (10 marks) : For Modeling Exercise #4.16 on pages 214-215, do the following questions. (a) Formulate a linear programming model.
