Objective [3.7] – Notes Be able to solve the quadratic, exponential and logistic literal (with just symbols) equations for any parameter or the input. In the previous objective, 2.6, you were introduced to the idea that when we “solve” we need to apply the “inverse”. That “inverse” may be multiply instead of divide, add instead of subtract, or compose with the inverse function. When we solve “analytically” (by hand) we must “undo” the equation in order to get at the symbol that is wanted. In this objective we will be solving our three non-linear model functions, quadratic, exponential, and logistic. With what you learned in objective 3.6 can you solve each for any parameter, input or output? Could you solve it “analytically” (by hand). Although SOLVER can do this for a SPECIFIC case (one with everything known except one parameter or variable) it can’t help if more than one is unknown or help us make a “formula” which might be rea lly nice to have if we are going to repeat the same solution over and over.
