Second Paper (6-7 pages) Due: September 7th Guidelines: Close reading should be at the heart of your paper. Your work should connect small concrete observations to an argument about the work as a whole, and you should consider and analyze speciFc passages from your chosen text within your paper. It is crucial that your interaction with your chosen text be analytical: in order to successfully complete this assignment your paper must transcend plot summary. To that end, consider not just what happens in a text, but also think about how that text is constructed and presented, and about the stylistic and thematic choices that underlie the narrative. Your object is to develop and support an original, arguable thesis. Remember that a good thesis contains three crucial components: a “what” a “how” and a “so what.” Keep in mind also that a more complex claim is more arguable than a simpler, self-evident one.
