============================================================================ BIM 251 Medical Image Analysis Winter 2009 ============================================================================ University of California, Davis Department of Biomedical Engineering Course Content : Techniques are presented for assessing the performance of medical imaging systems in terms of image quality. We review principles of digital image formation, random processes, Gaussian processes, matrices, and hypothesis testing. Then we describe measurements that define diagnostic image quality and the performance of human observers viewing those images and to make clinical decisions. Finally, we describe the ideal and other mathematical observers that are often used to predict clinical performance from system design features. Students complete a project using Matlab , give a lecture on a paper from the literature, and complete homework assignments. Prerequisite
