PREREQUISITES: CSIS340 Digital Computer Design or CSIS290 Concepts of Computer Systems. COURSE OBJECTIVES : Content Knowledge: 1. To understand the basics of network communications including the OSI model and TCP/IP concentrating the hybrid OSI, TCP/IP model. 2. To introduce Ethernet LANs and the details of the functioning of Ethernet LANs. 3. To introduce Wireless LAN operation, standards, and security. 4. To introduce the routing process. 5. To introduce network security issues. 6. To introduce network management issues and typical network applications. Skill Development: An introduction to the design and implementation of LANs. An introduction to the capture and analysis of LAN traffic. An introduction to troubleshooting network communication issues.
