Pei-yu Hung Hung 1 Ms. Thorn American Literature 27 March 2009 Is the Opinion of the Majority A Good Guide? In our lives, we frequently have to make a choice or decision. When we go shopping or eating, we consider which is better or which one has good price. In fact, there are numerous situations that we need to make a decision. Sometimes, people might solicit opinions from friends or others to help solve the dilemma. In most of the time, people like to use majority rule to discriminate something is right or wrong. However, the opinion of the majority is not always a good guide to lead people; sometimes it works, but sometimes it fails. The opinion of the majority sometimes is important to see as a guide and it is useful when everybody insist different ideas. For example, in Worcester Academy, each class selects the class officers to help arrange some activities or express opinion to the teachers. Then the students from the same class would vote for the person who they think is the best leader. The person who wins the most votes then becomes the
