Most monomers will undergo free radical polymerization, although at varying rates. However, monomers show high selectivity towards ionic and transition metal coordination polymerizations. In ionic polymerization, whether a vinyl monomer polymerizes by anionic, or cationic initiators depends on the inductive and resonance characteristics of the substituent(s) present....
