3.3 Polyethylene Homopolymers (HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE) High pressure is required to obtain polymer with high molecular weight. The reaction is an exothermal reaction. The temperature usually is controlled by heating the feed streams and cooling the reaction vessel and outputs. Peak temperature is usually not allowed to exceed 300 o C in order to avoid decomposition. Conversion of ethylene to polyethylene at the reactor discharge is 15-40%
